Love beer, love running.
On november 3rd, 2019, Beer Runners arrives to Portugal!
This race, promoted by Cervejeiros de Portugal and organized by Last Lap, aims to encourage physical exercise combined with the social act of sharing a beer with friends. The event will take place in Lisbon, at Praça do Império, and in order to include everyone the race is divided in two distinct competitions:
This easy level race starts in Belém and passes through Algés and Avenida 24 de Julho.
The Beer Runners movement emerged in 2007, when a group of runners crossed paths with a study conducted by University of Granada’s Professor Manuel J. Castillo-Garzón. This study concluded that beer would be a good source of antioxidants and vitamins after physical efforts. Thenceforth, the same group started running once a week and always ended the exercise sharing a beer.
In Spain alone the “Beer Runners” comunity has more than 28 thousand members divided in 78 different local groups. The movement is also growing in Denmark, Edinburgh, New York and Chicago.
Every participant that crosses the the finish line will be given the opportunity to taste two beers – one alcoholic and one non-alcoholic -, as well as lupins and dried fruits, in order to reestablish hidration and sodium levels.
